Australian progressive metal band Stare At The Clouds announces new album The Veil, their first release since their 2016 acclaimed debut album This Clear Divide.
The Veil is a concept album that explores the devastating progression of a terminal neurodegenerative disease through the intertwined perspectives of a Patient and his devoted Spouse. As the disease steadily erodes memory, identity and reality, the Patient is consumed by fear, anger and vivid hallucinations while his Spouse remains a constant source of love and strength, despite her own private grief. Through moments of fleeting clarity, heartbreaking decline and unwavering devotion, The Veil ultimately becomes a story not of the disease itself, but of enduring love, loss, acceptance, and the memories that outlive us.
Creating an album centred around the theme of dementia was deeply shaped by the band’s shared perspectives and experiences of witnessing family and loved ones navigating feelings of grief, anger, frustration, helplessness and heartache, caring for someone that becomes gradually more unrecognisable, and who no longer recognises them.
“We wanted to explore the emotional complexities of dementia and the ways it reshapesrelationships, identity and memory. Our experiences compelled us to approach the writing withgreater intention, sensitivity and respect.“
“We enjoy the challenge of creating a body of work that feels cohesive and purposeful when experienced as a whole. The album will reward repeated listens, with woven narrative and musical details revealing more of themselves over time.“
The forthcoming album, The Veil, is an album written to honour those families affected by dementia, exploring themes surrounding this tragic disease, and ultimately the remarkable stories of devotion, resilience and unwavering love in the face of profound loss.
