STRANGE HORIZON "Beyond The Strange Horizon":

Drawing inspiration from five decades of heavy music, Bergen, Norway based heavy/doom metallers Strange Horizon are neither modern nor retro. Neither hip nor true. Riffs and melodies are their weapons. Honest music for dishonest times.

Traditional doom metal, or as the band calls it, blytung skandinavisk heavy metal!

Influenced by Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Count Raven, the Finnish scene, the Maryland scene, 60s/70s proto-hardrock, blues and NWOBHM.

CARPET WAVES "Inner Weapons":

On their new EP Inner Weapons, Carpet Waves describe the feeling of being torn apart, conflicts with the outside world and the world of oneself, as well as the will to shout everything out at some point in order to finally find a place in time and space: "All Your Numbers Are Chromatic”. However, the first song Biography does not progress in small steps: pocket drums and post-punk guitar figures herald the five-song EP, before singer Benny sings about the frustration with the outside world and fellow human beings with stoic vocals. The break follows in the chorus and stoicism gives way to dissonance and outburst: The others, all those who seem so far ahead of us, they are actually not. As soon as the last rage has vanished, the dreamy guitars take us into the small chamber of the inner worlds: in the Narrow Dream Factory, the sounds whirr around the heads of the listeners, lulling them to sleep, only to be torn out of the maelstrom again at the end and smashed out with full force - because that’s the way it has to be to survive. But even when the outside world calls, the good and bad dreams remain. Return, recursion: what happened? What was intoxication and what was dream, who is what and what is the essence? Shadows asks these questions in polished Robert Smith meets Chameleons in 90s Sonic Youth fashion. Instrumental chaos and distorted completion are followed by contemplation: Aura is the first song the band wrote in the rehearsal room after a 6-month lockdown break - according to memory in less than an hour, the lyrics followed the next day.

Sonic Youth is replaced by Slowdive and Ride, pads spread out, filling our dreams: “If dreams were my weapon tonight”. At the end of the five songs, the gloomy 80s take over again, the coldness spreading over expansive instrumentals. The emptiness, the void wilderness, it is broken by staccato drums and guitars, discontinuity and pain are sung about, but also played upon. Until the repetition, the always the same, takes hold and the instruments blur in the head, drifting on and on, rearing up and in the end, as if there were no other option left, withdrawing, but never disappearing completely.

OK WAIT "Well":

The name OK WAIT is new— the four musicians behind the project are not. The Hamburg band emerges from the preceeding band’s SONIC BLACK HOLES guitarists Christoph Härtwig and Michel Jahn. In 2019/20 they were completed with bassist Florian Zeh (pre- viously in RODHA) and drummer Lutz Möllmann (also in BARRELS, previously in CALEYA, EISENVATER, ULME and others).

The band performs instrumental and epic rock music, that cannot clearly be categorized as post rock. They rather blend in their influences of post metal, noise rock, grunge and progressive rock. The band’s name OK WAIT proposes to pause, reflect upon and re-evaluate common ideas and concepts.

The album Well consists of five songs, arriving at a total playing time of fifty minutes. Each track journeys aimfully through layered sonic textures into huge break-ups. The songs are often interconnected by atmospheric codas.

The record was written, and recorded by the band throughout the latter half of 2020— due to the pandemic situation most of the production took place in the members’ own homestudios. On two tracks you can hear guest musicians adding lapsteel and violin. The album is produced by the members of the band, mixed by Christoph Härtwig and mastered by CULT OF LUNA’s Magnus Lindberg at Redmount Studios. The cover is showing a painting by the US artist Frank Gonzales. Bassist and graphic designer Florian Zeh took on the album design.

Well will be released on April 1, 2022 on Golden Antenna Records (as a digital release and as double LP in the color variants cockwork orange and Hahnentritt.

FOOKS NIHIL "Tranquility":

The waves crash against the shore again. Gently they knock, they roll over, intertwine and wash over the beach. If you listen closely, you can hear the shells in the foam, rattling feather- light over the coarse sand. You guessed it right: Fooks Nihil are back with their second studio album. The sound of the West Coast is knocking again. And it has become deeper, the songwriting is more sophisticated. The sound ranges from surf-twangy guitar lines to fuzzy ecstasies. The rhythm section seems much fuller and livelier than on the debut album. At times the drums drum up casual driving rhythms that lead into true surf and beat hymns. The band has evolved. The unusual composition seems consolidated and mature, the music all in all a touch more modern.

After a long wait over the heavy Corona months with busy pressing plants, the new album Tranquility can finally be released on March 18, 2022. on Unique Records. Once again, the mix was put in the care of the sensitive sensibilities of Glenn Brigman from Los Angeles, who puts his fingerprint on the work unmistakably tasteful.

Tranquility begins powerfully with Pictures Of You, which combines many of the typical features of the band and brings a new, unexpected facet. A crunchy riff meets a laid-back rhythm, polyphonic vocals and even some Latin elements are reflected in the use of percussion and the all-Spanish lyrics of the chorus. Over the following ten tracks, Fooks Nihil continue what they started with their debut album, cementing their West Coast beat once and for all in the listener's musical memory. What clearly stands out is the musical diversity of the record. Drummer Maximilian Schneider, bassist Florentin Wex and guitarist Max Ramdohr tell their personal stories in wayward compositions that together make for a wonderful journey through the blend of surf beat and neo-psychedelia with West Coast vocal harmonies that makes this band so distinctive.

THE LEGENDARY FLOWER PUNK "Beatroot 2020":

The Legendary Flower Punk started in 2012 as an obscure side project of Kamille Sharapodinov, guitarist of established Russian heavy psych proggers The Grand Astoria. The unique sound of the Russian trio combines pure Psychedelic Rock with classic Prog Rock elements.

Having lost a full year of touring due to the pandemic, The Legendary Flower Punk is now back with a new collection of tracks as a limited edition vinyl titled Beatroot 2020, out March 25th on Tonzonen Records!

Kamille Sharapodinov on the new limited LP release: "Our spring 2020 tour was cancelled (16 gigs in 18 days) due to pandemic of this new nasty virus and that was a real bummer for a small and independent band like The Legendary Flower Punk cos we had planned it for a long time and spent more than eight months booking it. But trying to stay positive we came with an elegant solution! Literally in the last hours before quarantine and self- isolation we gathered in our rehearsal room, set the recording rig and then jammed and jammed and jammed. Afterwards our sound engineer Igor (a real hero!) mixed and mastered everything and we cut the whole thing into 16 sets (by the number of shows we were going to play).

New LP Beatroot 2020 is a compilation of the finest moments of that jam sessions.

GONG WAH "A Second":

With new album A Second, Gong Wah launch the second stage of their Fuzzwave rocket, refining the fuel with a shot of bitter pop and a dose of sweet darkness and so follow up their persuasive 2020 debut seamlessly.

Nima Davari and Giso Simon on drums and bass push the Songs up front while guitarists Felix Will and Thorsten Dohle - who produced A Second in the bands own Chestnut Tree Studio - provide the atmospheric base for Inga Nelke's vocals floating above it all that makes Gong Wah so unique.

The tracks on A Second are nine fuzzwave pearls for the dance into the end of the world.

SOONAGO "Fathom":

Soonago is a four-piece instrumental post-rock/metal band from Bielefeld, Germany. After forming in 2014, the band has gained notoriety in the scene.
The only thing that is silent on stage with Soonago is the voice. Everything else creates a force of nature that involuntarily captivates the listeners. The band's musical style is characterized by a mixture of hard guitar riffs and melodic soundscapes. Soonago deliberately works without vocals acting as the main instrument. The songs, which mostly consist of drums, bass and guitars, invite the listeners on their own individual journey. The audience should be able to make their own associations and images in their heads and not be guided or influenced by a by a content or context. Compared to other post rock bands, Soonago 's music is more rifforiented, dynamic and therefore covers a range from spherical sounds to brute harshness. Most recently they have proven this live together with bands like The Hirsch Effekt (DE), Brutus (BE), Shy Low (US) or Spoiwo (PL).

In 2017 Soonago released their first album Nephele. Self-produced and recorded, mastered at Watt Matters Studio. In 2020 they were represented with the opener of Nephele, Chronos, on the sampler Lokalrunde of the label Kapitän Platte. The track was remastered for this by Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna).

In October 2021 Soonago was signed by the indie/post-rock vinyl label Kapitän Platte. The label, internationally known in the genre, will release the second album of the band, of course as vinyl. Soonago have once again placed the mastering of Fathom in the hands of genre great Magnus Lindberg, who has refined the four songs on the album, all of which were recorded at Watt Matters Studio. For the artwork Soonago could win none other than the Swedish artist Staffan Larsson, who has already proven his skills several times on albums by the label colleagues of EF. The 45 minutes long LP is distributed in Europe by Cargo Records, overseas Fathom is available via A Thousand Arms.

Conceptually, Fathom is mainly influenced by political events. During the creation of Fathom, the band was repeatedly flooded by political messages and grievances, which is reflected in the diversity and hardness of Evac, Besa, Apophenia and Fathom.

CLOSURE IN MOSCOW "Pink Lemonade":

Progressive rock chameleons Closure In Moscow will kick off the new year in style, celebrating the 7th anniversary of their second full-length album Pink Lemonade with a new vinyl pressing on…literally…pink lemonade.

As part of the Bird’s Robe Records 10th anniversary series, the band will re-release the album on LP, CD & digital formats internationally, after having been out of print for the past 2 years. A super limited edition vinyl edition of 100 copies will be produced in partnership with Enjoy The Ride Records, featuring ultra clear vinyl filled with actual pink lemonade.

Such a zany approach to their art matches the band’s energy on this record – paying homage to influences as diverse as Frank Zappa, Yes, King Crimson and The Mars Volta, with a tip of the cap to the soulful melodies that encapsulated fans on their previous records First Temple and The Penance and The Patience.
The acclaimed concept record takes their audience inside a world of the band’s own creation, following the journey of the character of The Fool, into self-revelation and existential philosophy.

Liam from the Dillinger Escape Plan says of the record: "Five machine elves who go by the collective name Closure In Moscow just spiked the proverbial punchbowl with a heroic dose of powdered dinosaur placenta called Pink Lemonade. Their sophomore sipper is a psychoactive syrup that promises to save the brave from a fate worse than death: modern mainstream music. Every hemi-syncing hymn off this self-released tweaker’s dozen seamlessly unfolds with the stamina of a Jacob’s ladder toy.

It’s one thing to hear inexperienced musicians parrot their influences with insufficient concealment, and another to hear professionals refract these gospels of light back into the musical multiverse like a prism. On Pink Lemonade, Closure In Moscow have respectfully stepped up where patron saints like Zappa, Mercury, Buckley, and Brown stepped out.
"

The album was produced with Andrei Eremin & Tom Larkin in Melbourne, Australia and originally released independently with the support of the band’s management Sabretusk (Pete Williamson) and MGM Distribution in 2014. Since then, the record has earned a dedicated cult following for its unique sound and ambitious conceptual narrative, as well as dabbling with Japanese pop culture, chip tune, vaudeville and musical theatre.

With their as-yet third album on the way in 2021, now is a perfect time to introduce yourself to the world of Closure In Moscow – with their jaw-dropping musicianship and exuding a positivity like no other, by their own admission, this band is here to melt faces and take you to the moon.
