WIZRD "Seasons":

WIZRD is a Norwegian rock band that dips its toes in all kinds of genres. From rock and indie to jazz and prog, WIZRD knows all the rules but deliberately break them.

Formed at the Jazz Conservatory in Trondheim, WIZRD's four-piece line-up consists of Hallvard Gaardløs (Spidergawd, Draken and more) on bass and lead vocals, Karl Bjorå (Megalodon Collective and more) on guitar and vocals, Vegard Lien Bjerkan (Soft Ffog and more) on keyboards and vocals, Axel Skalstad (Krokofant, Soft Ffog and more) on drums.

Since 2020 the band has been working on their debut album, produced by Norwegian film score composer and Jaga Jazzist drummer Martin Horntveth. The album was recorded in Studio Paradiso in Oslo by Marcus Forsgren (Bror Forsgren, Jaga Jazzist) and Horntveth. Bergen-based musician and producer Matias Tellez (Young Dreams, Girl in Red) has mixed the album.

Seasons is a groovy, catchy and progressive masterclass, with beautiful vocal harmonies, awesome melodies, quirky jazz grooves and a rock’n’roll drive to die for.

BOOGIE BELGIQUE "Machine":

Boogie Belgique is the Belgian band founded in 2012 by Oswald Cromheecke. The project grew steadily through word of mouth, and Cromheecke was eventually joined by Emily Van Overstraeten, Cedric Van Overstraeten, Aiko Devriendt, Ambroos De Schepper and Martijn Van Den Broek. This collaborative approach to production gave birth to a new sound that stayed true to the nostalgic flair of the band’s beginning. Boogie Belgique’s sound is a blend of electronic music and jazz, with hints of Bonobo, Wax Tailor, and Quantic. Varying anywhere between relaxing, intimate moods and energizing, danceable grooves, Boogie Belgique’s music is characterized by melancholia, vintage samples and a live big band feel.

Four years after the success of the band’s breakout album Volta, Boogie Belgique is back with Machine. Their sixth album draws a parallel to the 1930’s both musically and politically. The album’s sound pays homage to the decade’s musical trends, such as the crooners, big bands, and swing. The band puts this concept on full display in their album standout Wonder, which is a modern crooner track inspired by Harold Orlob’s hit I Wonder Who’s Kissing You Now with nods to fan favorites like Goodnight Moon and Forever & Ever.

In both eras, the music is meant to be escapist. In the 30’s, fans of music danced their troubles away through exuberance. During the modern age in which this album is set, Boogie Belgique invites its listeners to slow down, breathe, and heal from the frantic distractions of modern life that engulf many of us.

The parallel can also be seen in the economic and sociopolitical shadows of the decade that ultimately lead to catastrophic events. Though the threat is never named explicitly in their music, and the meaning of the album title Machine is open to everyone’s interpretation, this looming presence is something that can be seen in much of the album’s themes. Feeling like they’re on the brink of losing things that are precious in this world, Boogie Belgique warns its listeners of fallen kingdoms (Tales of Old) and the dangers of their ever-growing consumption in the present day (Risk).

Whether it’s in the band’s Boogieman icon, or songs such as Mercury (named after a celestial body that lost its planetary status), Boogie Belgique continually returns to these themes; longing for a bygone era, urban decay, public uneasiness, societies falling from grace, and avenoir.

HAVEN OF ECHOES "The Indifferent Stars":

Haven of Echoes is a new project by critically acclaimed musicians Paul Sadler (Spires) and Andreas Hack (Frequency Drift) that puts sophisticated songwriting, thoughtful lyrics and emotional vocal performance to the fore.

Best known as vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for celebrated UK based progressive metal act Spires, Paul possesses a haunting voice that ranges from silky smooth to harsh and anguished. His talent for inventive melodies and layered vocal composition takes centre stage throughout this exciting new project.

Andreas Hack is a musician from Germany whose former band Frequency Drift earned an international fan base with concerts all over Europe and released eight albums worldwide, which were enthusiastically received by fans and the press alike.

The debut album The Indifferent Stars is the engaging result of this collaboration. Difficult to categorize, it is at once progressive yet accessible, familiar yet forward-thinking. An album that takes the listener on a self-reflective journey, exploring the simultaneously connected yet increasingly isolated world we inhabit.

As guest musician, Andreas’ former bandmate, electric harpist Nerissa Schwarz enriches the music with a wide range of sounds, from eerie ambient soundscapes to energetic outbursts. She also wrote the music to the dark and brooding The Lord Giveth.... Electric guitars, acoustic stringed instruments, analogue synthesizers, digital sound generators and dynamic drums add further dazzling tones to the music.

A wide array of percussive instruments is also used to create another exciting layer that gives the songs a driving and exciting edge.

All these elements are combined in a unique cinematic, gothic and truly progressive album that despite all its musical complexities is at its heart a collection of interesting and relatable stories that will fascinate and thrill the listener.

MAJOR PARKINSON "Valesa - Chapter I: Velvet Prison":

Major Parkinson announces their long-awaited return with the new album Valesa – Chapter I: Velvet Prison, releasing on CD, vinyl, cassette and all streaming platforms on October 7, 2022. The ever-evolving seven-piece has emerged from the primordial darkness of 2017’s Blackbox, into a neon haze of progressive synthpop/rock. Having chased the ever-elusive Ghost of Pop music from the early days of their eponymous debut album to the present, the band has always thrived within a melodic core – often clad under a shroud of progressive experimentation. On Valesa – Chapter I, the shackles are off, the curtain pulled back, as their compositions extrapolate with new focus and invention. Not necessarily less intricate, but definitely more pop.

The album features 17 meticulously crafted songs that explore new sonic territories, set to the political backdrop of the 1980s as they tap into the Zeitgeist of a period in human history that proved tantamount in shaping our world. From the halls of an abandoned American high school to the wine-stained head of Gorbachev — the album evokes an all-encompassing feeling of uneasy nostalgia, like humanity collectively looking back in time with a pair of cracked, rose-tinted glasses.

Synth anthems set in a disco of nuclear anxiety.”, says vocalist Jon Ivar Kollbotn. “In this day and age, life is passing before our eyes before we can grasp anything at all, and we become spectators in our own lives. Like confused, geriatric visitors in a wax museum. As time passes by, the past is becoming brighter and nostalgia is growing bigger.”

The instrumentation is powerful and evocative. Guitars swell with subtlety as the bass and drums provide the groundwork for an explosion of synths as keyboardist, Lars Christian Bjørknes, takes center stage to create something wholly unique. Returning female vocalist, Linn Frøkedal, joins with the band’s very own Peri Winkle to complement Jon Ivar Kolbotn’s enraptured vocals and guide us through the brightly coloured maze of Valesa – Chapter I.

Weaving between nostalgia and failed revolutions, this album is a completely unique star in the soundtrack of 2022, offering you something that has rarely been done in any field of music.

TOEHIDER "I Have Little To No Memory Of These Memories":

Melbourne's Tohider have announced a new album. It is a modern rock opera – intended to be listened to as a full 47-minute journey following the characters of The Hoarder and Bralien as well as a third character who declined to be featured in the story.

Mike Mills says of the record: "The 45 second song is quite prevalent now, instagram/tiktok social media microcontent and all that. I have a bug in my brain that purposely wanders toward something which is the opposite of what’s popular so I thought “Hey how about doing a 47 MINUTE long song?

The new Toehider album is one song that lasts 47 minutes and 47 seconds.

"It look me about 3 years to write and record it. It really came out great and it sounds like a sonic journey through the last 50 or so years of prog rock and metal.

Thematically it’s a comment on remembering. Where are our memories now? Do we even need to remember that much? Or are we trying to remember too much? Are we better off forgetting? Are these memories even mine? How?
The whole thing tells the story of a man, a woman, a huge bird, a dumb alien, and 2 boats that get modded to facilitate an outer-space confrontation.

There’s two different endings. One on the CD, the alternate ending on vinyl.
There's also an amazing animated video for a portion of the song based on Salty's characters, animated by Eleanor Evans & Giovanni Aguilar.

Outstanding
!"

Toehider is a collaborative project between singer/multi-instrumentalist MIKE MILLS & graphic designer ANDREW SALTMARSH. I Have Little To No Memory Of These Memories is the 5th full length studio album and 22ndoverall release (after a series of 12 EPs in 12 months kickstarted the project a decade ago).

Since 2018, TOEHIDER have been running a successful Patreon subscription, generating hundreds of compositions and illustrations available to fans. Their Patreon was recently listed as one of Australia’s Top 10 most successful music subscriptions.

I Have Little To No Memory Of These Memories is out through Bird's Robe Records/ MGM on Friday September 9, 2022.

POLY-MATH "Zenith":

Poly-Math are a London/Brighton based instrumental five piece Prog band with a number of EP’s, a double album, and two collaboration side project records under their belt.

The band have toured the UK, Ireland and Europe frequently and have been a mainstay at the UK's essential math-rock / post-rock festivals ArcTanGent, Portals, StrangeForms and Bad Pond.

Zenith is the 4th record by instrumental prog band, Poly-Math. 8 tracks of punchy riffs, guitar/sax battling melodies and tight, complex rhythms that capture the band’s massive live energy.

Recorded at The Ranch Production House in Nursling with producer Mark Roberts (Delta Sleep, Toska, Black Peaks, The Physics House Band), Zenith represents a clear development for the band. The first to be written and recorded as a 5 piece with the addition of Chris Olsen on saxophone, Zenith is concise and consistent, focussing on complex instrumentation, huge, crowd pleasing riffs and diverse poly-rhythms.

This record moves away from the band's previous experimentation with expansive soundscapes and field recordings, and instead features concentrated, succinct songs, all around 4 minutes long, focussed on the signature Poly-Math playing style and riffery.
