PAVALLION "Stratospheria":

Does music bend space and time? When a five minute song seems like a huge black hole while a 24-minute-epic rushes past in the blink of an eye, one can get the impression that it’s possible. Concerning Pavallion, time is relative anyway, as already shown on their debut album 2048. Following the minimalistic catchiness of their 2017 five track LP, these four guys from Krefeld, Germany, now present their second album Stratospheria.

It contains 3 atmospheric longtracks that slowly unfold into great epics – from the lone, soft echo in a vast openness to the dense, impenetrable wall of sound. Warm, hypnotic post-rock meets modern psychedelic, reminding some of us of the good old Pink Floyd sound. Close your eyes and be carried away seems to be the motto – both live and in front of the record player.

Stratospheria is already on pre-order and will be released on October 26th via the audiophile indie label Tonzonen Records. It will be available as a limited gatefold LP in the vinyl colours marbled yellow (150 copies) and marbled green- blue (350 copies), as Digipak CD as well as for download.

OAK "False Memory Archive":

Oak is a Norwegian progressive/ art rock band that originally emerged from a folk-rock duo. The four members have a diverse background spanning from classical piano to electronica, prog- and hard-rock, with references to the alternative scene as well as progressive rock – something that has combined to make a distinguished and unique sound. Mixing this with great musical skills and a vision of being accessible to a wide audience resulted in their debut album Lighthouse in 2013.

Five years later, they are back with the stunning follow-up False Memory Archive. A natural continuation from Lighthouse, to which it has several small nods and references. The album has been meticulously crafted, with more use of electronics and low bass frequencies. It is both darker and groovier than its predecessor, while still sounding familiarly like Oak. They have taken several steps as songwriters and musicians, and ended up in a slightly darker and progressive territory – where the light still shines through in shape of catchy elements and stunning vocal harmonies, which creates the duality that defines them as a band.

The band has a wide source of inspiration - Opeth, Ulver, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Depeche Mode, Mew, Simon & Garfunkel, John Martyn, Massive Attack, Jeff Buckley – And also classical composers like Chopin, Bach and Dvořák; and film composers like Hans Zimmer, Harry Gregson Williams, James Horner and John Williams. No wonder that Oak really doesn't sound like anything else.

False Memory Archive was recorded in Ljugekroken Studio and Třyen church, and was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren with Oak at Fascination Studios.

BLACKBERRIES "Disturbia":

The days in which challenging music could trouble the charts are certainly long gone but there'll always be people into music that is more than just some background noise. There'll also always be people who play music you have to listen to.

Blackberries are taking that challenge for quite some time now and while remaining a kind of best kept secret in the German Psych and Kraut- Scene the world is beginning to take notice.

Their energetic and intense live shows earned them a rapidly growing reputation as one of the most fascinating acts around. Big festivals in America, Canada and even China received the message and invited the band to add their own colour to the mix.

While their last album Greenwhich Mean Time got praised in magazines like Rolling Stone and one of their American shows got a rave review in Shindig! Magazine they wasted no time to record their third album Disturbia which was mixed and mastered at Ice Cream Factory Studios, Austin, Texas.

Their last album was a new start, Disturbia is a natural evolution.

The experience of hundreds of live shows is all over these nine brilliant new songs that still draw on their Kraut- and Psych-Roots but also have a fresh and modern urgency. While the melodic strength still shines bright as one of the key elements, the themes of these new tunes have become considerably darker.

The band is well aware of the dangerous change of political climate. The record reflects these observations in gritty songs about violence, ignorance and loneliness without forgetting the age old but still relevant message of understanding each other and trying to find the "we" in all the "I me mine".

So to everyone who likes music that can shake you up and take you places make sure to keep an eye out for these four young men who call themselves Blackberries.

LJUNGBLUT "Villa Carlotta 5959":

Ljungblut originally started out as a solo project from Seigmen/ Zeromancer bass player and main songwriter Kim Ljung in 2005.

He needed an outlet for songs which didn’t fit in with his main bands. After three solo albums in English, the project evolved into a full quintet – and they released two independent albums in Norwegian.

Villa Carlotta 5959 is the sixth Ljungblut album, and the last in a trilogy of albums with Norwegian lyrics. Here, several songs have historical references. Hasselblad about the 12 Hasselblad cameras left behind on the surface of the Moon. Superga referring to the Superga height outside Torino, most known for the cathedral and the plane crash that killed the Torino football team in 1949. Then there are songs referring to Ljung’s chronic migraine – Min Krig (My war) and Aldri helt stille (Never completely quiet).

The album has a wide range of tempos and dynamics, but at the same time a cohesive sound and melancholy mood. An organic sound with Kim Ljung’s characteristic voice surrounded by a plethora of vintage synths and instruments. The basis of the album was recorded live in studio and mixed by Alex Mřklebust (Seigmen/ Zeromancer) and Terje Johannesen.

ACTION & TENSION & SPACE "Skaredalen Funhouse":

Action & Tension & Space is a spaced out instrumental lo-fi lounge outfit from Norway, consisting of members from bands like The Low Frequency in Stereo, Lumen Drones, Electric Eye, Soft Ride, Ape Club, Undergrünnen and the European backing band for Ryley Walker.

The band released their self titled debut album on Made in Haugesund way back in 2012 and are now ready with their second album called Skĺredalen Funhouse.

The music on Skĺredalen Funhouse is based on groovy basslines, chilling combo organs, smooth drums, crispy guitars and a surfing lap-steel. If you combine the ambience from The Necks, the lounge feel of The Friends of Dean Martinez, and the travelling spirit of Neu mixed together in an apocalyptic The Doors vibe - then you get ATS!

The new album Skĺredalen Funhouse is inspired by an actual house of the same name. The notorious house is somewhere outside of downtown Haugesund (south-west coast of Norway), without anyone knowing for sure exactly where it is. The mystery continues.

SPEAKER BITE ME "Future Plans":

Speaker Bite Me are back after 11 years with a new album!

Danish experimental rock quartet Speaker Bite Me will release their 6th album Future Plans on October 12, 2018.

Even though it has been 11 years since their latest album Action Painting, the band never split up. On the contrary, they have always been in touch, composing and playing live.

Martin Ilja Ryum (vocals and guitar), Kasper Deurell (bass); Emil Landgren (drums) and Signe Hřirup Wille- Jřrgensen (vocals and guitar) have pretty much their own way of working and writing. It’s like a solid marriage, where everything has to be in good harmony, before they release anything new. But that time is now! Future Plans was written in frustration and with this release the quartet shows that age isn’t hindering anything, neither fresh curiousity nor a seek for violence in their sound.

Future Plans is based on frustration at the crisis that we are experiencing.

Signe on the themes of the album: "Denmark has always been a divided country, but for the last decades we have seen a polarization. The gap between the poor and the rich has grown. You see this everywhere in Europe. The relation between people disapears. Maybe because we fell powerless. We get self centered? Instead of enjoying our wealth, we fight to keep our own surplus. We try to look at all that on the album. We all need to stay together give real meaning to our lives, without anxiety. We need to focus and concentrate, so that we all, together, can solve today's problems. We hope that our music can be part of that and release some of the tension."

As Speaker Bite Me sing on the title track: "A call for future plans / We believe we all must go / Go!"

Speaker Bite Me did find a new ally in Nis Bysted (Iceage, Lower, Choir of Young Believers a.o.) who was in charge of the mixing of the album. He was the best equipped to capture the noise that Speaker Bite Me wants to communicate as a band. Therefore the album is recorded live and the result is a real and authentic rock album.

I, USELESS "Twister":

I, Useless is a one man band from Clermont- Ferrand, France. The debut album Twister is about the death of a friend, and how to get on with life.

"Don’t worry, everything’s gonna be ok". Whether it's the last scrawled words left on a post-it by your best friend under palliative care, or the last text messages you will receive from your parents on their dying bed, "Don’t worry, everything’s gonna be ok" means everything except that things will be ok. For I, Useless, it means "Goodbye, this time it's over". That's what he finally understood after the third time. Hence the name: I, Useless.

After mourning periods, denial, there is still one thing left. The memory of those who have passed away. And when the only thing left to you is memories, you have nothing to lose. Which is good, at least musically speaking. About autotuned trends, urban rhythms, crazy nights or drugs? I, Useless could not care less about it. He already went through all this in his former life. Today this pop UFO flies away without looking back. While high above, he might sometimes come across Tom McRae or even plot with Nick Drake.
If he sings with a child's voice, it is because he whispers his words to angels, and if his songs sometimes bring tears to your eyes, it is because they were composed with. More than just a careful craftsman and multi-instrumentalist, I, Useless is an exceptional songwriter, a genuine storyteller who directly speaks to what remains beautiful and pure in each of us. Twister, his first album, is an ode to the missing people and also a wonderful tribute to life.

THE DEVIL'S TRADE "What Happened To The Little Blind Crow":

Four years is a lot of time, especially without a new record. But just in case you’re wondering the past four years in the life of Dávid Makó, the Hungarian singer-songwriter known as The Devil’s Trade have been an intense journey. After Those Miles We Walked Alone, his debut full-length saw the light of day in November 2014, not even himself had an idea of the path he is about to take.

Four years is a lot time, especially if you spend it sitting by idly. Now that’s not something that is one of Makó’s fortes, as he spent this long period of time evolving into the artist that he is now. From his self- financed CDRs to a sold out first press of the vinyl version of Those Miles, from his first show as a solo artist at a small venue, playing in between a couple horrible tribute bands to the stages of Europe, touring with the likes of Crippled Black Phoenix and Nathan Gray Collective among many, Makó is summoned a different kind of beast. So does he on his sophomore album What Happened To The Little Blind Crow.

Makó, who spends his days changing people’s lives and improving their health as a strength trainer, bares his soul on stage and offers a piece of himself night by night and despite the "rough-around-the-edges" look, intimacy, despair and hope never sounded this heartfelt and sincere. Written in nearly every corner of Europe on tourbusses, in tour vans, in the rehearsal space back home, What Happened To The Little Blind Crow is the next step in a wonderful journey. From traditional and heartbreaking Transylvanian folk, through Makó’s roots as a doom /stoner singer to the spirits of the Appalachians, this full-length is the manifestation of an artist ever growing, ever evolving and adapting.

MADDER MORTEM "Marrow":

Marrow is the seventh album from Madder Mortem – one of Norway’s most unique metal bands. Following up on Red in Tooth and Claw from 2016, and two successful European tours with fellow Scandinavians Soen, the band is hungrier and heavier than ever before.

Marrow is complex album, covering a wide register of genres and expressions – from folk/prog moments to avant garde, from pretty and ballady to challenging modernistic tonality and harshness. With Agnete M. Kirkevaag’s dynamic and powerful vocals on top, as always. Lyricwise, the album is about sticking to the essence of yourself. Your ideas, your thoughts, your values. To stay true to your roots – your marrow.

Their most doomy album to date, and at times both heavier and cathier than it’s predecessor Red in Tooth and Claw, the new album Marrow is a perfect album for those thunderous Autumn storms.
