SLOWLY BUILDING WEAPONS "ECHOS":
Following their 2017 record Sunbirds, Slowly Building Weapons are back with their new album ECHOES. Slowly Building Weapons are a trio from Sydney Australia and Omihachiman Japan.
ECHOS takes a sharp turn away from the sound of their previous effort, which was described as "genre-crushing amazingness. To compare this to anything doesn't really do it justice."
Somehow Slowly Building Weapons have succeeded in forging their own path through a myriad of influences from doom, shoegaze, post-punk, post-rock & metal, indie-rock and pieces of early hardcore. It's a tough ask to pigeonhole the sound of any one track and thus it's almost a relief to eschew this approach in favour of simply just enjoying the music itself. With daring experiments in production that will both alarm and excite listeners, the largely self-produced effort nevertheless still 'sounds' like a Slowly Building Weapons record, whatever that might be.
The band comments: "Our previous two albums, Nausicaa and Sunbirds, were each anchored in a certain style/genre - then we tried to get creative around that. For ECHOS, we pulled up the anchor and let ourselves drift off. It took years of drifting, but we ended up in a place that felt more at home then where we started.
Then when it was time to record, our main aim was to capture the sound of the band in a room - and then hang onto that as tightly as possible. So that's what you're hearing on the album, it's us playing live in the big room at Studio 301, with the exception of Nick who pre-recorded his vox in Japan, then we used different techniques to 'put him in the room with us'. There's obviously overdubs and other things added afterwards, but we really tried to keep it as 'real' as possible. It was a challenging process, but I think we achieved what we set out to do. This is a unique album and we're really keen to share it with everyone."
ECHOS is another step forward in the musical journey of Slowly Building Weapons, the album is available on all formats on December 4th, 2020.

taumel "there is no time to run away from here":
Sven Pollkötter and Jakob Diehl first met 10 years ago during a musical production at the Funkhaus Berlin. They quickly hit it off and became friends when they discovered they were born in the same year and left school in the same year to pursue a career in music and arts.
Jakob was the composer and Sven one of the two percussionists in the 13-piece instrumental ensemble that recorded the music for the radio play "Die Nacht aus Blei" (The Night of Lead) by Hans Henny-Jahnn. The music was slow, sluggish and gloomy - the story itself dark and depressive, similar to the Netflix series "Dark" - in which Jakob was to act years later.
After years of producing music and collaborating together, the two started the band taumel in 2016. The timing of their first album release, 10 years after their first encounter, and the start of the Netflix series “Dark 3” is pure coincidence. Their dark instrumental sounds have been a signature of their first demos and musical pieces long before the incredible success of the series but weren’t completed due to various film shootings by Jakob.
Given Sven’s and Jakob’s broad background, taumel is musically diverse. Their first album creates a jazzy, slow minimalist instrumental sound through a quartet of piano/Rhodes, guitar, flugelhorn and drums. The compositions are full of contrasts and breaks and the duo pays a special attention to the story telling within the album and identifies their music as Doomjazz or Darkjazz. there is no time to run away from here is a composition of individual tracks that represent the first portion of a musical series called “TRAUM”. These individual tracks, when combined together, will create one comprehensive story.
Sven Pollkötter is a freelance percussionist and drummer. He played in rock and pop bands like “Assignment”, “Alternative Allstars” and “Clause Grabke”. He studied classical music and went onto play neo-classical and improvisation, jazz and various folks music. Sven still loves to play and experience music in various contexts, from classical concerts to theatre music and music production.
Jakob Diehl works as a freelance composer and actor. In addition to his own music, he composes for radio, theatre and film. He is also a speaker and voice performer for various live performances and CD productions of contemporary music. As an actor, he has performed in radio plays, theatre, TV and international film productions such as Dark, Counterpart, Paradise, Il Pecatto, Der Baader Meinhof Komplex.
Even though both musicians are classically trained in drums/compositions, they formed taumel out of their desire to make music into dialogue and without any limits and taboos. Despite the fact that taumel has been around for several years and performed in concert, Sven and Jakob consider their first years as an “experimental and developmental phase”. Now that the concept has evolved and taken shape, they are ready to share their story, of which there is no end in sight. And so the story of taumel begins...

CORECASS "V O I D":
CORECASS is the solo brainchild and creative outlet of distinguished Hamburg based musician and composer Elinor Lüdde. Since its inception in 2014, CORECASS has been able to look beyond the conventional approach and fuse together instruments such as harp, accordion, electrical guitar and her natural voice, combined alongside field recordings, foleys and digital or synthesized instruments in order to create something truly unique and expressive. The result is an innovative and cinematic style of music— an elegiacally dark and atmospheric conglomerate made of cliché busting conceptions between electronic and non-electronic sounds and sources.
With several well received releases and film scores already under her belt, CORECASS has once again found a new way to explore and challenge both herself and the listener by evoking a wealth of feel- ings through her anomalous musical expressions. In her newest offer- ing, V O I D, she uses her multi-instrumental talents to interpret and repurpose the world around her into an ethereal mix of sounds that encapsulates a full spectrum of emotions. The most driving component in her latest release is a church organ, which provides an especially unique characteristic due to its distinctive tonal qualities. With the creation of V O I D, CORECASS has discovered fresh ways to convey a myriad of states through a series of movements and interludes. Filled with weaving audio narratives that transcend traditional genres, it pushes the boundaries of what can be accomplished through the medium of sound.
V O I D will be released on Golden Antenna Records on the 27th of November and will no doubt be another well received release in CORECASS’s already prolific catalogue.

THE GRAND SBAM "Furvent":
"Music is like the wind, it never stops. We are the ones who stop listening" - Alain Damasio
The Grand Sbam, a french bastard music ensemble, embarks with Furvent on a new journey in octet, to meet the wind and the natural elements, inspired by A. Damasio's novel: The horde of the counterwind and by the symbolism of the Yi King (I Ching).
Carved in the continuous flow of sound, the music of the ensemble is a de-fluence, a circumvention, an inflection of air and time. An impetuous flow of sound defying musical boundaries. Nowhere between rock, contemporary music, ancient music, jazz, electroacoustics, it draws sharp lines and curves on the back of our disintegrating present. It plunges the listener into a familiar universe with an unpredictable future, caresses him like a soft zephyr and propels him straight into the eye of a cyclone.
Powerful and delicate, virtuoso and sensitive, Furvent's music, composed for four hands by Guilhem Meier and Antoine Arnera, is nourished by contrast, developing a furious madness charged with symbols and poetry. It explores the multiple and hybrid possibilities of a singular instrumental ensemble with generous tones, mixing electric and acoustic sounds.
Singing is omnipresent, oscillating between solos, duets, choirs, in polyphonies, monodies and counterpoints, made up of onomatopoeia, invented words and French sometimes distorted or compressed in order to shift the meaning in the sounds and to infuse the speech with strange and musical colors, of the type "soufli blastou sifloventéoval rafali tonutriyè tiotiènio éolié laliéné ", or "chu yu yu you yo ya wa ya kin, dwendet dwen det". This broad use of the voice is wrapped in an avalanche of acoustic and electric sounds, with the presence of rare instruments such as the Mellotron, ancestor of the sampler, or the Cymbalum, ancestor of the piano. Synthesized, Bass, Piano, Rhodes, Semi-electric Drums, Marimba and percussions collide and implode, generating a cosmic Blast, which is also called Grand Sbam.

COLLAPSE UNDER THE EMPIRE "Everything We Will Leave Beyond Us":
After Collapse Under The Empire finished their 10th anniversary with the triple LP boxset The End of Something last year, their new album Everything We Will Leave Beyond Us will be released on November 13th, 2020. On this album the duo completes the story they started in 2009 and at the same time open up a new chapter. All the themes C.U.T.E. have dealt with on their albums/ EPs so far, starting with Systembreakdown (2009), tell of a world full of conflicts, crises, catastrophes, death, isolation, longings and freedom. The two musicians themselves could not have imagined that much of this would become reality in 2020 within only 10 years. With the pre-release charity single A New Beginning, the band donates all proceeds to the German Red Cross, which is fighting the worldwide Corona crisis.
With their 8th full length release Collapse Under The Empire set to music a dark world that has got out of control. Hotspots everywhere, above all the corona virus, environmental destruction, the greed of mankind, injustice, exploitation, poverty, war and resistance. The 8 new titles show this development in dark soundscapes, apocalyptic guitars and epic synth sounds, piling up the tracks to huge mountains of sound.
Thematically, Everything We Will Leave Beyond Us is no longer a utopia, but a bitter reality. One can only hope that mankind will survive the current crises, and above all learn from them! What the future will bring remains to be seen. For the first time ever the band worked together with producer Toma Moon from Hamburg, Germany, who handled mixing, mastering and the overall sound design.
