MOAAN EXIS "Necessary Violences":

Duo machines/vox + drum oriented industrial, techno, hardcore, cinematic atmosphere, tribal or experimental sounds. Since its beginnings, Moaan Exis explores genres, integrates them, in fact something that someone can not define so easily.

A sound object burning melancholy with the violence of a catastrophe. There is little respite, yet so much urgency on Necessary Violences. This is manifested by a powerful beat, confusing rhythms, strange sounds, a brutal distortion or not soothing soundscapes.

Because the motor is emotion. Ultimately, Moaan Exis desires to sublimate sound into fury, rage and sweat.

VALSE NOOT "Utter Contempt":

Valse Noot is a free noise rock quartet from Brest, France. Valse Noot doesn't just rip the face off, it also attacks the brain, because the disturbed rock of this band, somewhere between Fugazi's Zappa and Lizard's Jesus, sounds as if the Joker has gone into "free rock noise".
Madness reigns everywhere on new album Utter Contempt, and if the sound is dense and the compositions set like precision bombs, it does not crush the poisonous atmosphere and the carnivalesque dinguery of their lunatic asylum where possessed voices, drill-drilling guitars, sanding recorders, and a whole arsenal of noise ultra blunt, for a post-hardcore with experimental accents, structures as rigorous as twisted, with devastating power.
The result: a twisted brain, in the clockwise direction of real watches, the ones that don't tell the time at all but ring out when everyone has forgotten how urgent it is to wake up.

ECHOPLAIN "Polaroid Malibu"

Echoplain is a logical continuation. Emmanuel Bœuf (Emboe, A Shape, Sons of Frida, Dernière Transmission), Clément Matheron (Sons of Frida) and Stéphane Vion (Velocross, La Diagonale du Fou) have known each other for a long time. Logical by their musical affinities and their common desire to create sound. Born in 2018, their mix of post punk and abrasive noise, somewhere between muffled vocals, spoken words and shoutings, brings them after a few shows to record a first self-titled EP (2019). The debut album Polaroid Malibu was recorded by Julien Bous (Postghost Recording) and mixed and mastered by Julien Camarena (Unison), illustrated by the paintings and drawings by Sasha Andrès (Heliogabale, A Shape) and the artwork of Benjamin Vergès (La Diagonale du Fou, Torquem).

HINT "Rarities Of Two Centuries Vol. 2":

Hint started in 1993. Being much influenced by noise as well as experimental and ambient/drone music, they stood out of the crowd thanks to their unique sound: a lush and highly energetic combination of layered industrial rythms with massive and dissonant walls of guitar, howling voices and saxophones, frightening pads, travelling in ethereal and melodic ambiances.
Three albums (100% White Puzzle, Dys-, Wu-Wei), a remixes’ LP, some split-EPs and collaborations (Unsane, Portobello Bones, Bästard, Daunik Lazro) created a well-off discographic run and sound experiments, within a large artistic bracket of movies-inspired ambiances and noisy violence. On stage, the two multi-instrumentists – guitar, sax, trumpet, flute for Arnaud Fournier (Dead Hippies, La Phaze) / guitar, bass, sampler and voice for Hervé Thomas (Fragile, Urawa and Dead Hollywood Stars) – are playing in front of video projections which emphasise the band’s musical emotion. From 1994 to 1999, Hint paced up and crossed the european roads with bands like Unsane, The Young Gods, Pitchshifter, Bästard, Scorn, Fugazi, Chokebore, Mono, Les Thugs, Lab°, Portobello Bones, Alboth ! or Prohibition. From 2000 to 2005, the band made about twenty rare appearances for particulary outstanding shows, before joining Ez3kiel on stage for the “Collision Tour”, astonishing live set of violent yet melancholic walls of sound. Recording of these shows were released in 2009.
Now after Hint released in September 2020 a first volume of Rarities Of Two Centuries, a Vol. 2 will released, featuring a compilation of rare and unreleased tracks.

VOLVOPENTA "Simulacrum":

This Is Not Detroit was the title of an art project in the Ruhr area, and it became so popular because the similarities are so unmistakable. Since 2007, the music of the Ruhrgebiet band from Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr has been both, a commentary on the environment and resistance to the surrounding tristesse. Volvopenta thrives on the contrast and friction that arises from the interplay between the two guitarists Marcus Kreyhan and Stefan Claudius. André David's unobtrusively refined work on the bass and Kai Spriestersbach's stoic drumming turn the harmonious counter- and coexistence into unity. With almost earworm- worthy songs like One To Five or Kolonie 56, the new record Simulacrum on the one hand continues musical developments that were already hinted at on the debut LP Yoshiwara with songs like Wolfskull or Short Sleep, but also ventures into more abstract realms, as Flint or Barfly clearly show. The CD contains additional songs like the rather experimental Ghost or the rather dark Central Human Agency, which once again shed a different light on this multi-facetted band. The LP version of Simulacrum is strictly limited to 200 copies on brown marbled vinyl. The specially made cover was hand-painted and finally glued by the band. Each copy is unique.

VESTINDIEN "Null":

With a name taken from the last know brothel in Bergen, the band Vestindien was formed in 2009 as an up-and-coming hardcore band with a heavy metal twist. But only one year after the release of their 2011 EP We Are The Lords Of Hellfire, and despite having built up a solid following eager to experience the band's frenetic live shows, Vestindien called it a day.

Some years later, though, the band re-emerged and changed their style quite a lot. The band's current lineup consists of Torjus Slettsnok on vocals, Simon Skøien on guitars, Karl Johan Johannessen on drums and Pål Eirik Veseth on bass, and their debut is demonstrating an introverted and less hardcore aggressive approach to their art.
With the new sound, the band started playing around the venues in Bergen, and supporting bands like Taake among others.

There are still hints of their hardcore roots, but the band has engulfed themselves in a dark shroud conjuring the essence of black metal, punk and old school rock’n’roll. The songs are dark, desperate and desolate, but there are also hard punches of energy and groove.

With the debut album Null, they present a quite unique approach to a dark, harsh and sinister old-school metal sound.

LOVE MACHINE "Duesseldorf - Tokyo":

Tief im Westen things aren’t as idyllic as you might assume. Find yourself at Worringer Platz at night, Düsseldorf shines in a gloomy neon light. Halfway between Immermannstraße and the city’s notorious nightlife area something got lost. And somehow experiences are always dependent on their surroundings. It's a dingy and an insane Düsseldorf that Love Machine tells about on their new album Düsseldorf – Tokyo. The hometown becomes the setting for stories of addiction and collapse, and for those of sobering up and friendship. Experienced first hand in the local tension between sophistication and trash. The band around singer Marcel Rösche provides a personal inventory and bows deeply in front of the wondrous city at the river Rhine.

On their fourth studio album, Marcel Rösche, Noel Lardon, Richard Eisenach, Hendrik Siems and Felix Wursthorn play some weird eccentric rock music with German lyrics. Rösche sings in German on eight of the ten pieces from Düsseldorf - Tokyo, which wouldn't be worth mentioning if it wasn't a premiere for a band that previously only staged texts in English. It wasn't planned that way. But sometimes everything turns out differently than expected and it is so wonderfully unabashed in writing in your own mother tongue. And that now meets garage crackling, driving rhythm and all sorts of hissing and whining. The rhythm section around drummer Noel Lardon and bassist Richard Eisenach always stays on point and demonstrates great flexibility and range, as does the joint guitar work by Hendrik Siems and Felix Wursthorn. The quintet is supported by pianist Jan Lammert, whose use of the electric piano, piano, organ and synthesizer gives the pieces on Düsseldorf - Tokyo a completely new dimension. Düsseldorf - Tokyo was created from the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2020 in collaboration with producer Patrick Stäudle during a two-week retreat on a farm in the Black Forest and during the last recordings in Düsseldorf in the basement under the old Kraftwerk studio. Stäudle, who has been the band's producer since the previous EP Mirrors & Money, knows how to put a stop to madness.

The title track right at the beginning of the record is on the one hand a travel report, on the other hand a classic Düsseldorf thing with a lot of Krautrock history spanning the globe, which resonates there. Holy motors! Drums, bass, samples and synthesizers become one. Then from the runway to the Hauptbahnhof. In the best BRD manner, Rösche sings about the same and the surrounding area as places of crash and disillusionment. This is where it all ends. That sounds bitter-sweet like slacker chanson with flippant guitars and a melting electric piano. If the misery of the world sometimes upsets you, have another drink. And another one. Lieblingsbar sounds confused as if in your head at three o'clock at night and is about escape and distraction. Sometimes you also find a friend, then live together, hold night-long cosmic conferences, indulge in addiction together, then stop doing it together and write a twisted country song like Gemeinsam Einsam. In a final act, Rösche shouts out loud. To the sound of fuzz guitars That Mean Old Thing and The Animal rage against alcohol problems and toxic behavior before the album says goodbye to a nirvana of eternal distortion.

Wer wohnt schon in Düsseldorf?

MEER "Playing House":

The Norwegian 8-piece alternative progressive orchestra MEER is welcoming you with a massive sound, fabulous melodies, awesome harmonies and quite a few surprises.

MEER started out as a duo in Hamar, Norway in 2008, and since then the duo has expanded considerably to become what it is today - an eight-piece eclectic collective whose music is a mix of orchestral pop, classical music and progressive rock.
With their grandiose string arrangements and polyphonic vocals, MEER's sound is far from minimalistic and flows in seemingly constant motion.

Today's line-up comprises Johanne Kippersund on vocals, Knut Kippersund on vocals, Eivind Strømstad on guitar, Åsa Ree on violin, Ingvild Nordstoga Eide on viola, Ole Gjøstøl on piano, Morten Strypet on bass and Mats Lillehaug on drums.

NEEDLEPOINT "Walking Up That Valley":

Needlepoint is a Norwegian group that straddles the border between jazz and prog, carrying the torch of legends such as Soft Machine, ELP, and Camel with a unique Nordic voice. Their upcoming album Walking Up That Valley evokes nostalgia while exploring avenues all its own, feeling both new and familiar at once.

Needlepoint was formed by guitarist/vocalist Bjørn Klakegg around 2010, with the band’s debut being released that same year on Klakegg’s own label. A renowned guitarist and figure within the Norwegian jazz scene, Klakegg found his old British rock heroes from the 70’s step out of the fog of the past when he first met bassist Nikolai Hængsle (Elephant9, Møster!), and thus the Needlepoint sound was born. By 2015, the current lineup was solidified with Olaf Olsen and David Wallumrød, making the band a formidable collection of talent some might deem a Norwegian supergroup.

Walking Up That Valley continues the line of development from the band’s past two releases, Aimless Mary (2015) and The Diary Of Robert Reverie (2018), which dug more deeply into the Canterbury prog only hinted at by the band’s first outings. With the group’s maturity has come continued exploration, evinced in a plethora of instruments heard across the album: harpsichord, violin, flute, a choir and more add layers of sonic beauty to an album already bursting with ideas. Between dreamy vintage keyboards, busy drums and percussion, mind-bending, jazz-tinged guitar work and deft bass lines, Klakegg’s soft and melodious voice finds room in the mix, tying the album together with tales from the road between reality and fantasy.

Walking Up That Valley is sure to please fans of prog, 70’s rock, jazz and even folk rock. The album will be available on January 29, 2021 on colored vinyl, CD and digital download in Europe from Stickman Records.
